It’s helpful to know expert’s recommendations for screen time use, which were updated by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) in 2019. The AAP makes the following recommendations for screen time below.

Enable the timer on the kids’ area or here to keep track of how long your kid spends watching and playing.
 Timer runs indefinitely.

Screen time for kids under 18 months old - Video chat

For kids under 18 months old, screen time should be limited to video chatting.

Screen time for kids 18-24 months old - High quality media with parents watching alongside

Kids 18-24 months should only be exposed to high-quality media, with parents watching alongside.

Screen time for kids 2-5 years old - High quality media limited to 1 hour per day

Kids 2-5 years old should be limited to 1 hour per day of high-quality 
programming; again with parents watching alongside.

Screen time for kids 6+ years old - Consistent limits

Kids 6 years and older should have consistent limits on the time spent. Digital media should not take the place of sleep, physical activity or real-life personal interactions.
